BACKYARD and Related Photographs / SKOL - Centre Des Arts Actuels, Montreal, Canada / 2003
The exhibition at SKOL featured a new version of the video installation BACKYARD, accompanied by numerous 11”x14” photographs which depicted related scenes and subjects from the same project, as well as similar subjects of fauna and flora from other sources and occasions. The series of photographs reflect the similar concerns with the motivation and purpose behind our “creative” activities, which may designate the ultimate categories and functions of these activities. Similar to video, I was interested in the innately slippery nature of photography with its multiple identities as a device with a definite function (documentation/ commemoration) and as a medium for an aesthetic expression.
