Eating is often better than making art - placemat intervention / Montreal, Toronto, Canada / 2003
As one of the gallery's promotional projects, SKOL in Montreal commissioned five exhibiters from this season to design a paper placemat, a few thousand each of which were distributed at downtown restaurants in Montreal. The recycle queen Shinobu Akimoto re-contextualizes some of her placemats by stamping her signature logo "thanks for your support for art" and sending them to a several dining locations in Toronto. The first intervention took place at Toronto's art community's "signature" and now "legendary" eatery ting in May 2003. After all, these disposable placemats are made for better dining, but hey, they may support art as well..
