In response to the invitation to participate in +video awards 2005, in Nagoya, Japan, Toronto-based visual artist Shinobu Akimoto has compiled a collection of video projects for the Canadian component of the exhibition. The exhibition will be held from July 2 to July 31, 2005, showcasing award-winning single channel video works of emerging Japanese artists, along with selected works from Indonesia and Canada. The Canadian collection will consist of a range of artists, some of who are exclusively "video makers", while others approach the medium more as "video users", in order to best complement their various other practices. Her curatorial premise aspires to a vague attempt to convey certain approaches and attitudes as seen in the practices of contemporary visual artists in Canada, which possibly reflect some influence of the social and artistic environment and systems specific to this country.
